Perins Students Gold in International Spelling Bee

We are incredibly proud of three of our talented Year 7 students who recently showcased their linguistic skills at the Routes into Languages South Spelling Bee, held at the University of Southampton. This prestigious competition saw over 16,000 students from across the country put their spelling, vocabulary, and pronunciation to the test in French, Spanish, and German, racing against the clock in a high-energy challenge.
Representing Perins in the French category, Angelina A, Damir I, and Sholto G tackled the competition with enthusiasm, determination, and incredible skill. We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Angelina secured 1st place, earning her a well-deserved spot in the National Finals in Cambridge later this year—an outstanding achievement!
While Damir and Sholto didn’t progress to the next round, they both performed brilliantly, demonstrating impressive linguistic ability and resilience. More importantly, they truly embodied the Perins spirit—supporting one another with kindness and celebrating Angelina’s success with genuine pride.
A huge thank you to Ms Maldonado and Miss Alimmouch, who were there to encourage and guide our students throughout the competition. Their support made all the difference, helping our young linguists perform at their very best.
As Ms. Maldonado said, “I am so proud of all three students. Angelina’s victory was the result of hard work, dedication, and a true passion for languages. Damir and Sholto also showed excellent character, supporting their peers and embodying the positive and encouraging environment we strive to nurture here at Perins.”
The Routes into Languages South Spelling Bee is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their language skills, build confidence, and take on new challenges—and our Perins students certainly rose to the occasion!
Congratulations once again to Angelina, Damir, and Sholto—you’ve made us incredibly proud. We’ll be cheering Angelina on as she prepares for the National Finals—Bonne chance!
