Exploring the Science of Sport: A Day at the University of Chichester

Last week, a group of 15 students from our More Able and Talented programme had the exciting opportunity to visit the University of Chichester for a day of hands-on learning and discovery in the field of Physical Education and Sport Science.
The visit was designed to deepen students’ understanding of key GCSE PE topics, while also opening their eyes to the wide range of career pathways in sport and exercise science. Through a series of interactive workshops led by university staff, students explored the science behind athletic performance and the real-world applications of what they learn in the classroom.
“It was amazing to see how the science we learn in class is used in real sports settings. It’s made me think differently about what I might want to do in the future.”
Among the highlights of the day:
- Students used force plates to analyse the biomechanics of jumping, gaining insight into how data is used to improve performance and prevent injury.
- They measured physiological responses to exercise through breath content analysis, learning how the body adapts to physical activity in real time.
- They engaged in discussions about university life, career options in sport, and the academic pathways that can lead to roles in coaching, physiotherapy, sports psychology, and more.
It was a fantastic day filled with learning, inspiration, and action. Our students returned with a deeper appreciation for the science of sport and a clearer vision of the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.
We’re incredibly proud of how they represented Perins and look forward to seeing how this experience shapes their future ambitions.
