HOT Trip letter

Dear Parents and Carers

This is a reminder that the History Department is running the Hitler on Trial trip, an exam conference and a theatre production trip to Berry Theatre for Year 11 students on the 3rd of February 2025. Perins School recognises that trips are an important part of school life and as well as forming lifelong memories, they help students and staff develop positive and rewarding relationships. With this in mind, we would ask that you share this wonderful opportunity with your child.

The aim of the conference is to help pupils develop their knowledge and understanding of the GCSE History curriculum through a mixture of entertainment and information. The conference is in two parts. The first is an exam-busting workshop in which pupils are shown how their exam papers will be marked and advised on how to improve their performance. The second is a mock trial in which the audience will be the jury. On trial will be Adolf Hitler, charged with the responsibility for causing the Second World War. Prosecuting Counsel and Counsel for the Defence will call a series of witnesses, played in quick-change style by professional actors. Written by Josh Brooman, the trial is designed to help pupils develop their understanding of the use of evidence, their understanding of causation, and their ability to analyse historical arguments.

We have attended the conference for many years, and it is always a great success. Other schools will also be in attendance, and it is usually a sell-out performance. Students will be required to wear school uniform. Transport will be by Top Marks coaches, a local company, used by the school previously.

Financials

The trip is deemed to be an educational trip as it takes place during school hours and we are requesting a voluntary contribution. Please note, that although the contribution is voluntary, the trip may not go ahead if we do not receive sufficient contributions.

To be considered for the trip, we would ask that you complete the form in your Scopay account and make the voluntary contribution by Friday 19th July, 12pm.

Places are limited to 40 students, and if the trip is over-subscribed, we will hold a random draw. You will be added to the waiting list and refunded if unsuccessful. If your child has been allocated a place on the trip but subsequently cannot attend, we will try our best to resell their place but can only issue a refund if we are able to resell. In the event of insufficient interest for us to run the trip, then all payments will be refunded.

Selection and Student Expectation

For all trips, we recognise that parents have made a financial commitment and expect their child to have an enjoyable and worthwhile experience. We also recognise that staff often give up their own time to enable students to have these experiences. If the school believes that the behaviour of a student is of such a concern that it raises questions around the safety and enjoyment of the trip by others in attendance, then we reserve the right to not offer a place or remove a student prior to or during a trip.

In normal circumstances and where the behaviour is not a single serious incident, staff will have meetings with students and parents to express concerns so that the student has an opportunity to improve their behaviour and parents have the opportunity to remove their child from the trip to mitigate any further financial loss should they not be permitted to attend. If the school is left with no alternative but to remove a student from a trip, then any payments will not be recoverable by the parent/carer unless a replacement can be found.

If you have any questions about the trip or require financial assistance, please email – trips@perins.hants.sch.uk

Kind regards
