Perins Debates

A small group of students in KS3 took part in a public speaking and debating workshop this week. UNLOC provided an all-day event for students to learn the art of debating and public speaking. This is an important life skill, and many subjects require students to show balanced arguments in their written and verbal work.

During the workshop, students took part in a moving debate, analysed their own public speaking confidence,  took on the one-minute challenge and finally they ended the day with a head-to-head debate, discussing ‘Should the voting age be lowered to 16’ and ‘Should education use AI’. Students had time to prepare their arguments for and against, as well as creating an opening and closing statement.

Perins students did an amazing job in this workshop. The UNLOC facilitator was so impressed with how articulate and knowledgeable the students were when sharing their arguments. We are looking forward to taking 10 students next year to the debating competition to debate against other schools where we hope to bring back the trophy! ‘ – Miss Sargent Head of RE
