The Perins P.E Coaching Awards

Year 10 students have the option in one of their Core PE lessons of participating in the Perins Sports Coaching Award.

The Sports coaching course is delivered over the whole of Year 10.  Students on the course participate in sports coaching for 1 out of their 2 hours in core P.E. time.

The start of the course is based at Perins where students learn how to deliver a successful coaching session relating to such aspects as communication, organisation, and safety. As the course progresses students take greater ownership of their lessons building into the summer term when they visit local primary schools and work with primary school children in a variety of sports and activities.

The course is an excellent introduction to students interested in coaching sports and gives students an opportunity to plan, prepare and lead sports coaching sessions designed for younger children.  Students on the course benefit by taking increased responsibility within lessons which will help to improve confidence and knowledge of sport.

In order for students to take part, we ask for voluntary contributions per student to cover the cost of student logbooks and certificates on successful completion of the course (please note the course is assessed as a pass or fail based on teacher observation, quality of written work and potential external assessment by other PE teachers).

We also offer students the opportunity to purchase “Perins Coach” polo shirts, which are navy and have PERINS COACH embroidered on the back. The polo shirts can be worn for PE lessons, visits to primary schools and after-school clubs.  The polo shirts are by no means compulsory, but we offer them as students like to be distinguished and as an alternative to the white polo shirt.
