Examination Enquiries & Review of Marking
Subject teachers are currently checking exam results to see where marks are very close to a grade boundary. If they think it is sensible to ask for a clerical re-check or a review of marking, we will contact you at the beginning of the autumn term.
If Perins School requests a clerical re-check or a review of marking, the school will meet the cost. however, if you wish to request either of these services yourself, you will need to pay as detailed below. In either case, we require your permission signature.
If you are concerned about any of your grades; you should, in the first instance, contact your subject teacher and discuss the issue. Your subject teacher will have details of your marks and be able to advise you on a suitable course of action. You should do this as soon as possible at the start of the school term (from 5th September). You must do this very quickly as there are strict deadlines set by the examination boards for submitting any check or review request and you will need to complete the permission form on the website before the process can begin.
Charges vary by examination board:

Clerical Re-Check
A clerical re-check will include the following checks:
• that all parts of the script have been marked;
• the totalling of marks;
• the recording of marks.
The outcome of the clerical re-check will be reported along with a statement of
the total marks awarded for each unit, or component, included in the enquiry
Review of Marking
A review of marking is a post-results review of the original marking to ensure that the mark scheme has been applied correctly.
A marking error can occur because of:
• an administrative error;
• a failure to apply the mark scheme where a task has only a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answer;
• an unreasonable exercise of academic judgement.
The awarding body will train its reviewers to conduct reviews of marking accurately and consistently. Reviewers will not re-mark the script. They will only
act to correct any errors identified in the original marking.
