We’re delighted to share a good news story about Abby Turnbull, who left Perins after taking her GCSEs in 2023. Many at Perins will know Abby as a musician, particularly for playing the cello in school events. However, people may not know that she is also an accomplished oboist, having taken up the instrument in 2019.
Abby auditioned and was awarded a place playing the oboe in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for 2025. This will see her perform in a series of concerts across the country at venues including the Barbican, Birmingham Symphony Hall, and culminating in a televised concert at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall.
She will also work with the orchestra during 2024 and 2025 on their NYO “Unite” and “Inspire” programmes, where she will join them for residential and day courses to mentor aspiring players of the future.
