Remembrance Day

To commemorate Remembrance Day this year the History leaders have delivered assemblies to all year groups – the theme this year was to remember the big battles of 1944, which included D-day and the Battle of Monte Casino. All pupils have had tutor time tasks and in their History lessons this week, year 8 pupils will be looking at the importance of Remembrance Day and the unknown Soldier, as well as researching their own family History using the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the roll of honour. On Sunday 10th November, 5 pupils took part in The Remembrance Day service at St John’s Church. The pupils were a credit to the school, leading a small presentation, which was signed by Alice, and they then laid a wreath on the memorial and paid their respects to the former pupils of Perins who fought in the Great War. “Thank you for organising the service, what a great opportunity for our children and so lovely for us parents to see their presentation, very proud of them all” – Parent of Amelia T Today the school took part in a 2-minute silence at the Remembrance tree, laying a wreath and reading the exhortation.

“A really nice moment to come together as a school, everyone was so respectful” – The History leaders. “Every year I am so proud of the History leaders for giving up their time and representing the school, but this year the pupils have gone above and beyond – leading assemblies, selling poppies and attending the service, it makes me feel incredibly grateful and honoured to be a part of Perins school! It was also amazing to see so many pupils come together and attend the 2-minute silence today – a real moment”. – Miss Lewis.

“The girls that took part in this year’s Remembrance service in St John’s were a real credit to Perins, every year we enjoy the Readings given by the school but this year the girls excelled. It was really nice to have signing, it added a very special touch. Thank you from The Alresford and district RAFA branch” – Linda Trevelyan branch secretary.
