St. John’s Church Northington has recently had their church organ fully restored to its former glory with help from the Lottery Fund and The Heritage Fund. The organ built in the early 1800s when the church was built has now been opened up to the public to explore and experience the amazing sounds it makes.
We were lucky enough to have a workshop, sponsored by the church, where a selection of our Year 7 pupils went to learn about the history of the organ, St. John’s church and the mechanics behind the organ itself. The workshop offered the opportunity for the pupils to sit and play and explore the way it works. We are now working with St. John’s on developing a more bespoke range of workshops and lessons for our young people to continue learning the organ or take up some lessons with John the organist.
