Year 8 Transform classes have been working on an exciting project this term, as part of the Winchester Sustainability Pyramid. The project is a collaboration with five other Winchester schools and Sparsholt College.
Year 8 were tasked with creating projects that would support sustainability at Perins and its wider community. This was part of a 2 round ‘Dragons Den’ competition hosted by Sparsholt College. Students had the opportunity to be awarded up to £250 from a select group of Dragons from various business sectors across Hampshire and the UK.
Round 1 was an intra-school competition where classes presented their pitches to Mr Graham and Miss Greenwood who then judged what they felt was the best project to take forward to round 2 at Sparsholt College, where the winning group would represent Perins and compete against the other schools.
“This has been a fantastic project to be a part of, not only watching our students push their comfort zones but also creating strong links with other schools and colleges locally” – Mr O Graham
Noah, George and Harrison’s brilliant presentation about planting fruit trees across the Perins site to provide our young people and the community with fresh fruit as well as supporting a low carbon footprint were selected. The group presented a brilliant pitch at the event at Sparsholt and caught the attention of all the Dragons. The boys managed to secure £125 from two Dragons Julie Milburn – Principal and CEO of Sparsholt College Group and DrJamie Mackay a highly respected Strategy Manager.
Alongside the secured £250 Sparsholt College has also agreed to support us with their expertise to help Perins Year 8 students plant our fruit trees.
Congratulations Noah, George and Harrison.
